Geo-Thermal STM Under-Turf Cooling Systems

There is an area under your feet where the earth's dry core temperature is a constant 56 degrees F called the Vadose zone. It can be 5 feet or 250 feet under ground but its there. That's why your cold faucet water is cold. The science is known as geo-thermal ground source heat exchange and it is at the heart of our Sub-base Temperature Modification System or Geo STM. The synthetic sports turf or any flooring medium is installed over the system and the membrane assuring maximum thermal conductivity. The system employs an underground geo-thermal core to cool the water as it circulates under the sports field, lawn or flooring absorbing the heat.When the used water circulates down to the thermal core deep under ground, the heat is released into the earth's cold core and the cooled water circulates back up to the surface to repeat its journey under the turf or flooring, lowering the surface temperature. Because this is a closed-loop system, the water stays in the system and used over and over again so it is never wasted. A sports field complex is divided into multiple zones based on frequency of play, type of sport and most efficient performance of the cooling system. The zone system allows for maintenance and repair on an isolated area of the system with out interrupting the use and function of the cooling system.*

A Zero Humidity micro-climate is created in climates where humidity is present. 

Rain Water Recapture is a natural attribute of the Geo STM system as rain water will naturally drain into under ground expansion tanks where the system collects the water before chilling it in the geo-thermal core. Ultra violet lights break down bacteria and a special filtration systems screens out debris so the water will store free of most organic particles. The system pumps can send chilled water through auxiliary transmission lines for other uses around the field or campus.

In cold weather climates this same system raises the sports field temperature about 10 degrees above freezing and prevents snow and ice from sticking to the field.

We evaluate every sports field application for the best approach to installing our under turf cooling system, determining the cooling system zones and thermal core locations.

A Thermostatic control console automatically controls water flow and monitors temperatures on the synthetic sports field and the water pre and post chilled. Pumps begin circulating water at the first sign of heat build up on the sports field allowing the under-turf cooling system to mitigate surface heat on the sports field long before temperatures reach harmful levels. Our under-turf system is an agricultural-quality product with a psi of 150lbs and designed to stand up to the rigors of sports play and the weather. The system is effective in cooling synthetic sports fields from underneath and maintaining lasting durability under the impact of sports play and the sun's rays.

Full Scale Demo is Available to allow you to field test the Geo STM cooling system right there at the sports field site. It ships easily and assembles into a 6ft x 8ft cooling module that functions just as it would permanently installed*. *The water for the Geo STM system is chilled by a geo-thermal ground source heat exchange core but mechanical chillers or a deep, cold water source can also be effective heat exchangers.

Moisture Membrane Sub-base Temperature Modification System or MM STM draws cool water from your main water service and quickly and evenly disperses a thin layer of cold moisture under the whole synthetic lawn in about 10 minuets. That’s all the water you'll need all day. On exceptionally hot days the system can be run several times a day.
This MM STM system is a moisture membrane under the synthetic lawn which absorbs and holds the cool moisture.  
A thermal secondary backing on our turf allows the sun’s heat to pass through turf to the moisture membrane.
By running water through the system early in the day the turf will stay cool. Running a fresh supply of cool water through the system prior to use during the hotter part of the day will assure you the most comfortable synthetic lawn experience under the sun. The STM system can be set for automatic thermostatic control.
